Sarah Orton is a multidisciplinary artist from the Kootenays, known for her rich, expressive tone and smokey, Soul Noir style—a moody blend of 60's ballad and alt-folk driven on her electric guitar. Influenced by the musical traditions of her Doukhobor heritage and over a decade of performing in bands within Canada’s DIY scene, Sarah has forged varying paths in the music industry as a versatile and dynamic vocalist, songwriter, nascent producer, and diverse collaborator.

Some of the fruits of her labor can be heard in her original alt-soul 5-piece outfit Penny Shades with multiple CBC Radio plays, or sometimes sharing the stage with nationally renowned electro-folk act Moontricks, headlining numerous music festivals and sold-out venues in Western Canada.

Exploring the depths of her musicianship through her solo project, Orton’s moody soulful live performance was invited to Kaslo Jazz Etc. Festival, Woodstove Festival, Pachena Bay Festival, and Tiny Lights Festival. She also had the great privilege of opening up for acclaimed artists Ora Cogan, Shaela Miller, and Billie Zizi on their album release tours in 2024/25

Her first track, 'You' earned her Music BC's spotlight artist of the week, a highlight in Women In Music's e-letter, and a spot on Exclaim's Eh List Canada's best new music Spotify Playlist.
